最近在找工作，一个老外问我一个问题，里面有个术语叫notice period。我当时没反应过来。他继续解释说，就是How much time do you need to leave current company？
OK，有他这个解释，我回答给他是没有问题的。虽然心里仍有困惑，关于为什么notice period是这个解释。
有道词典里的解释是，“通知期限”。如：
Redemption Notice Period 赎回通知期（好像redemption是redeem的名词）。
After completion of half the required resignation notice period the employee will be allowed time off with full pay to look for another job.
在规定的辞职通知期结束一半之后，该员工将获得全薪休假以寻找另一份工作。
You will not be required to work your notice period and therefore this date will be your last date of employment within the company.
在通知期，你无需工作，所以这一日期就是你被该公司雇佣的最后日期。
另外，我在某论坛上找到这么一段话：
我的Offer Letter如下。
Termination:
The appointment may be terminated at any time by either party giving two (2) month notice in writing or two (2) month's salary in lieu of notice. The right to all or part of the notice may be waived by mutual consent.
因为我要跳槽，面试的时候人家嫌我Notice period 2个月太长。 我这个是不是说我可以罚款2个月工资立即辞职，或者罚1个月多呆1个月之类的只要双方OK啊。
因为我现在手上有2个工程，公司没人顶我，我看他们要找人，还要我knowledge transfer的话，最少也要1个月才有可能搞定。
请大家给点意见，我要是拿到Offer的话怎么跟现在的公司开口谈这个事比较好。

所以说，在面试的情况下，notice period特指，需要提前多少时间通知你当前的雇主（公司），以便合法合理离职，然后到新公司上任。
